PROJECTS

Digital Media: Sports Communication

Throughout a Digital Media and Sports Communication course, I collaborated with peers on a long-term semester project to create a sports media brand called Turtle Talk. The project featured two podcast episodes about the University of Maryland’s Women’s Basketball Team, recorded using Riverside and edited in Adobe Premiere. Additionally, my team created blog posts, a website, mock social media accounts, and connected with influencers to boost brand awareness.

One of the primary challenges that I faced during this project was maintaining consistent quality across different media platforms, which required diligent coordination and attention to detail. Coordinating team schedules and managing diverse tasks exemplified my group’s time management and organizational skills. Through this project, I highlighted my abilities in content creation, strategic communication, and digital marketing. I learned to navigate the complexities of brand development and the importance of cohesive teamwork.

Digital Media: Adobe

I completed this project this project as a student enrolled in Communication and Digital Media in the Fall of 2022. The objective of this project was to build a portfolio for the College Park Aviation Museum. With a full creative license, I decided to create a redesigned logo and branding kit, a PDF for visitor information, and an advertisement directed at donations. Through this course, I got introduced to coding through Python and learned how to utilize Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Composing this assignment was challenging because it was my first time using the Adobe software. Although some of the tools in Adobe are difficult to use, I kept practicing with them in order to execute the final products. This assignment demonstrates my visual design skills and my ability to plan and produce products for a future client. While I find Adobe to be a very useful software program, I see myself implementing these skills in my professional career.

Rhetorical Methods in Communication

In the course Rhetorical Methods in Communication, I conducted a comprehensive rhetorical analysis of the Disney Pixar film, Luca. For this assignment, I crafted a central thesis and developed three supporting arguments directly related to my main thesis, which were grounded in established rhetorical theories. To support my analysis, I utilized eight different secondary academic sources. My analysis concluded with a 5-7 minute presentation which I delivered to my classmates and professor, at the end of the semester. During my presentation, I effectively communicated my findings using a visually engaging template, as shown above. This project not only refined my analytical skills but also enhanced my ability to present complex ideas clearly and confidently.

Social Media Strategy Report: SKIMS

In a collaborative group effort, I contributed to a comprehensive social media strategy report the brand SKIMS. My team and I conducted extensive research, analyzing SKIMS’ current social media presence, audience engagement, and competitive landscape. We used various analytical tools to gather data on user demographics, content performance, and emerging trends.

Through this project, I gained valuable insights into creating effective social media campaigns, understanding audience behavior, and leveraging data to drive strategic decisions. This experience not only enhanced my analytical and strategic thinking skills but also stimulated my passion for digital marketing. I look forward to applying these skills in my professional career, aiming to develop innovative social media strategies that resonate with audiences and drive brand awareness and success.

Digital Photography: Storytelling

During my semester abroad in Barcelona, I completed a digital photography project that vividly captured the essence of Barcelona beach life. Through my lens, I told a story that celebrated the vibrant and diverse scenes along the coastline. Utilizing various photographic techniques and editing my images in Adobe Photoshop, I brought out the unique atmospheres of beachside activities.

This project allowed me to express my creativity and passion for storytelling through visual art. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting this story together and learned invaluable lessons about capturing the nuances of human interaction and the natural beauty of the environment. Overall, this experience honed my technical skills and also deepened my appreciation for the art of photography and the power of visual narratives.

Applying Theory & Research

This grant application highlights a semester long group project where my peers and I created a health communication campaign. The objective of our campaign was to strengthen the knowledge and behavioral attitudes about mental health within fraternities at the University of Maryland. I completed this assignment in the Fall of 2022 while I was enrolled in the Communication Honors Program course, Health Communication Campaigns.

From completing this project, I learned how to design, implement, and evaluate health communication campaigns. I also gained the skills to identify and critique various theories concerning social marketing, targeting, persuasion, message design, and message exposure. This project highlights my ability to conduct research, synthesize information, and apply theories in order to focus on the role of mass media in contemporary public health campaigns.
